Next Stop on the European Poker Tour: Prague
The European Poker Tour has put out a press release announcing their next intended stop, and it is Prague. This will be the seventh time the tour will be visiting the historic city on the Vltava River.
Those wishing to step up to try to win a seat in one of Europe’s most important poker events can do so pretty much immediately, as qualifiers will be getting underway on Saturday, October 5th.
Players can win a seat online
According to the European Poker Tour’s press release, in 2012 “almost 400 players won their seats to the Eureka and EPT Main Events online with PokerStars.”
For those who aren’t in the know, the European Poker Tour is not only one of the best-known live tournaments of the year, it is also one of its biggest.
As specified by the EPT, 2012 saw an entrant pool numbering 864 strong, with last year’s winner, Ramzi Jelassi from Sweden, taking home a not-too-shabby €835,000 final prize.
This year’s Main Event is set to run from December 12th through December 18th. The full event schedule can be found on the European Poker Tour’s web site by following this link.
Is there a future for North American Poker Tour?
With the excitement surrounding the European Poker Tour, U.S. online poker players look to overseas events and can only wonder if, with the regulated U.S. online betting industry just ramping up, the future holds a far greater abundance of tie-ins between live and online events in North America.
In recent months, as PokerStars works to regain entry into the U.S. online poker market, there has been some chatter as to how far the company will go in re-introducing its brand to the American poker audience. Will PokerStars resurrect its now-dead North American Poker Tour?
The idea is certainly not out of the question, as PokerStars has reached an agreement to operate an iGaming website in conjunction with Atlantic City land-based casino Resorts, the city’s oldest property. The company has yet to receive regulatory approval from New Jersey gambling officials.
With it being reported this that PokerStars is interested in constructing a new $10 million poker room at Resorts, it is clear that the company, based in Isle of Man, is not opposed to the idea of making a flashy re-entrance into the hearts – and onto the computers – of U.S.-based poker players.
Bringing back the North American Poker Tour is just one way that PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room, can put itself once again in front of the eyes of not only American players, but Canadian Internet poker fans as well.
Remarked J. Pascrell III, spokesperson for Resorts, “PokerStars is committed to investing significant resources to put in a brand new poker room at Resorts Casino Hotel. In addition to the poker room, they are committed to driving traffic to Atlantic City through their marketing.”
