Female Success Story At The GPS
The Genting Poker Series is one of the most popular poker series to be found in the UK and with a large number of Genting Casinos dotted around the country, there is plenty of scope for players to get involved. The latest stop-off in the 2013 GPS came in Newcastle. There were over 400 poker players taking part in the Main Event which led to a prize pool in excess of £160,000. This is a great sum of money to be playing for and when you think that the guarantee for the event was set at £100,000 it just goes to show how many people rallied around to play.
There were many big names of the UK poker circuit and scene at the event but there was a turn-up for the books with Ellie Biessek taking first place. Biessek has been a very popular feature of the UK poker circuit since she came to prominence back in 2011. The Polish poker player is a well-known player and she would have been delighted to have made a little bit of history at the event. The Genting Poker Series started in 2012 but Biessek’s triumph was the first time that a female had finished on top in one of the events. Thankfully the majority of the poker community knows that women are just as talented and as skilled as their male counterparts but victories like this will do wonders for the confidence of female poker players around the country.
Biessek has had a successful time of late
Biessek has shown at various points in the last two years that she can match the male poker players and she is now starting to develop a good level of career earnings. Biessek first came to prominence for many poker fans in February 2012 when she managed to take away £4,000 from a side event at the Birmingham leg of the GPS. A month later, Biessek was playing at the London Genting Poker Series and a place on the final table allowed her to add £10,000 to her career earnings. There was another notable success when Biessek took third place in Belgium as part of the GUKPT, a place which allowed her to take home over 13,000 euros. However, it was the £38,000 prize that went along with the triumph in Newcastle that catapults Biessek into a higher level.
The runner up at the Newcastle GPS was Jamie Rutherford who received just over £25,000 for his second place finish. In third was George Clyde-Smith who banked £19,104 for his efforts in Newcastle. Fourth place went to Dan Woodford, who walked away with £14,880 and a prize of £11,840 went to Jimmy Charlton who finished fifth. Sixth place fell to Jonathan Gill, who received £8,960 and in seventh position was Ashraf Waheed, who received £6,400. The other two players on the final table were Dom Mahoney, who received £4,320 and in ninth was Dan Hemmingway, who received a total of £2,720 for being the first player eliminated at the final table.
